Ricky Thornton Jr. wins Ben Nothdurft Memorial at Huset's Speedway

A busy week for Ricky Thornton Jr. and the Koehler Motorsports team kicked off on Monday with a visit to Eagle (NE) Raceway for the inaugural High Bank Heist.

Against a field of 26 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Thornton followed up a heat race win with a runner-up showing in the 40-lap opener.

For the Kosiski Family 53 on Tuesday at Shelby County Speedway (Harlan, Iowa), Ricky turned in his second consecutive runner-up finish in the feature. He joined race-winner Hudson O’Neal on the podium with Garrett Alberson coming in third.

On Wednesday, Thornton hopped behind the wheel of a Justin Zeitner-owned Repairable Vehicles.com Tri-State Series Late Model for the Ben Nothdurft Memorial at Huset’s Speedway (Brandon, S.D.). With a heat victory placing him on the front row for the feature, Ricky overtook Bill Leighton Jr. on lap 15 en route to the his 20th win of the season and the $6,000 winner’s payday.

In the Koehler Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model for the remainder of the weekend, Ricky raced into the Saturday’s finale with a ninth-place finish in his prelim on Thursday and a fifth-place finish in Friday’s 40-lap preliminary feature.

Gunning for the $53,000 top prize in Saturday night’s 14th annual Silver Dollar Nationals A-Main, Thornton recorded a 13th-place finish.

Thornton’s weekend concluded with a fourth-place finish in the XR Super Series A-Main on Sunday at Clay County Fair Speedway (Spencer, Iowa).
